It's OK, I won’t launch into a monologue of how Mr.B, even when pretty much immobilized with a bad back, hip and knee, still manages to leave chaos in his wake in an otherwise (fairly) tidy house.
No, I’m talking ‘boyfriend’ jeans. How dare the fashion headlines state 'skinnies are dead' when it's so hard to find baggy, relaxed, slouch, girlfriend, boyfriend (whatever you wanna bloomin' refer to them as) that actually look good?! I haven't tried on every boyfriend jean on the planet (obvs) but I've tried on enough to know it’s been a right bloody headache - too much fabric, too high waisted, too long, too wide, too unflattering, too much like hard work!
And what's made this process all the more frustrating is that I've always found it easy to find a good fitting pair of skinnies, whether that be a Levi's pair or a cheaper alternative from New Look or H&M.
I tried Next as their skinnies can also be good. But sadly the crotch was all wrong on their boyfriend offering - too much material which made me look like I had boyfriend bits in my pants – not a good look! Though perhaps that's why they're called boyfriend jeans, but I doubt that very much!
I then ordered a Topshop pair. I didn’t really want ripped ones but I was getting desperate and was interested to see what the fit was like - it was amazing - the best actually! But I was determined to find a non-distressed pair so I continued my search.
I was so excited when I ordered these Hush ones because, well, between you, me and the gatepost, I want everything from the Hush catalogue and want to look just like their beautiful model. Anyone else wish they did too!?
I also ordered a pair from Boden and was hopeful but, alas no. They looked really old fashioned for some reason and certainly not slouchy enough either.
Surely, jeans that are referred to as a relaxed or slouch fit should be made with comfort in mind?
Interestingly, these were labelled as cropped but as I'm only 5'3" they seem to work rather well.
You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.....
Ain’t that the truth? I rarely shop in TK Maxx but I really should add it to the Rolodex in my mind as the savings on designer labels is significant. These MiH jeans would have retailed for over £150 but I only paid £45 for them.
If you too are having boyfriend trouble it’s also worth considering a cigarette cut jean. They are loose on the leg but more fitted on the bum than your average boyfriend style.
These are from Next.
Right, I'm off to do some tidying up so that Mr. B has something to make untidy again. That's teamwork folks.
See you soon when I'll hopefully be wearing a skirt - if the weather ever decides to warm up! Brrr.
