And it’s not just my eyes; my body’s playing silly buggers too. Nothing major and not that anyone would've necessarily noticed (and you’d be very rude to say even if you had!) but my clothes from last year are fitting differently - or not at all in some cases. A friend, who too is experiencing this '40 something' body changing phenomenon, summed it up perfectly the other day - she used the word ‘thickening’. It’s not drastic or sudden weight gain - it’s subtle and slow and creeps up on you until, ‘BAM!’ – it’s got ya! And the dress - my stripy, always flattering, fail-safe, go-to, look & feel great in dress - that's served me for 3 summers, now looks bleedin’ awful! That’s what the ‘thickening’ does my friends.
Oh and the spider veins creeping up and down my otherwise fairly good legs - let’s not even go there sister!
Anyway – truth is, nothing stays the same and we have to make the best of what we’ve got.
Same goes for the weather – it’ll soon be changing and the shops are preparing us for Autumn with their pre-fall pieces.
I’ve heard, on good authority, that pleated skirts are hanging around. So, having thoroughly enjoyed wearing my grey one from New Look this summer, I pondered on how I could wear it when the temperature drops.
